Coccydynia (Tailbone pain)

Spine is made up of a series of bones starting from neck(cervical) to tail (coccyx).

All the joints, especially the coccyx is more prone to inflammation and/or pain and may develop localized pain. This pain is known as coccydynia.

Falling down from stairs, falling over your bum , any injury or activity that involve long hours of sitting, are some of the examples where you may develop pain over your tailbone. This involves the bony area between the buttocks and above the anus.

Any injury, strain, sprain over the coccyx , nearby muscles or ligaments can cause inflammation to coccyx.

Symptoms

Occasional sharp pains
Difficulty sitting down
Difficulty standing from sitting position
Difficulty passing stools
Difficulty having sex
